Forecast for Hurricane Season Remains Above Average

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center still predicts an above-normal Atlantic Hurricane Season in its updated forecast.

The mid-season forecast calls for 13 – 18 named storms, which remains close to its initial forecast. Five to nine of these storms could become hurricanes, with as many as two to five developing into major hurricanes (winds of 111 mph or more). NOAA verifies a 90% probability of these numbers.

NOAA’s National Weather Service emphasizes potential risks like damaging winds and storm surges, and encourages everyone to have a safety plan.
